The qualifying campaign for the 2024 European Championships is now more or less at the half-way stage and while it’s far too early to be certain who will make it through to the tournament in Germany next year, we can certainly envisage one oor two of the main contenders.
The 2024 European Championships will get underway in Germany in twelve months’ time and already there are clear signs of who some of the main competitors will be. As tournament hosts, Germany are assured of a place in the group stages of the competition, however will they manage to go all the way on home soil?
England are half-way through their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign and they sit firmly in pole position in Group C with a maximum twelve points from their four games thus far. Having scored fifteen goals along the way, Gareth Southgate’s men have conceded just one (against defending European champions Italy) and they sit atop the betting to win the tournament outright, alongside France at 9/2 apiece.
As with England, 2022 World Cup finalists France have gone through their qualifying group unscathed, Les Bleus picking up maximum points from their opening four games and keeping clean sheets in each of these outings. Thus far they have banged in nine goals in their wins over Netherlands (4-0), Ireland (0-1), Gibraltar (0-3) and Greece (1-0), therefore it’s no huge surprise to see them emerge as joint-favourites to triumph in the competition.
Having disappointed in the 2022 World Cup, Germany will be eager to atone for their poor showing when they host the 2024 European Championships. Having lost 2-1 to Japan along with a 1-1 draw with Spain and 4-2 win over Costa Rica, the Germans were dumped out of the 2022 World Cup at the group stages although they are a 6/1 shot to go all the way on home soil next year.
Spain currently sit in fourth position in their qualifying group on account of a 3-0 win over Norway and surprise 2-0 defeat to Scotland, however they remain favourites to finish atop Group A. The Spaniards clinched the Nations League title thanks to a penalty shoot-out victory over Croatia last weekend and they are priced at best odds of 9/1 to claim a second successive piece of international silverware in twelve months’ time.
