Update: 28.06.23
West Ham United and England midfielder Declan Rice is on the move and it seems increasingly likely that his destination this summer will be the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal and Manchester City have both been eyeing-up midfielder Declan Rice throughout the summer transfer window and with the Premier League and Champions League winners having their bid of £90 million rejected earlier this week, the door is now open for the Gunners to secure his signature. Arsenal have now submitted a third bid of £105 million for the player and it is understood that Man City aren’t going to match this bid.
The Gunners had two previous bids for Rice rejected with both offers falling short of the asking price of £100 million, however we understand that West Ham don’t believe that Arsenal’s current offer possesses the right structure. This is a potential stumbling block to a deal being struck although in reality it seems somewhat unlikely that talks will fail at this stage.
Rice’s current deal at West Ham comes to an end in 2024 although the player does has an option open to him to extend this for a further year into summer 2025. Should the Gunners’ bid of £100 million plus an extra £5 million for add-ons prove to be successful, then the initial fee alone would be equal to the current UK record from when Man City forked out the same amount for Jack Grealish.
Rice has banged-in 15 goals in his 245 appearances for West Ham and following the news that Man City won’t be matching the current Arsenal bid, the bookmakers go a general 1/20 that he ends up at the Emirates Stadium once the summer transfer window slams shut.
1/20 – Arsenal
7/1 – Manchester City
22/1 – To Stay at West Ham
33/1 – Manchester United
33/1 – Chelsea
33/1 – Bayern Munich
Update: 26.06.23
Arsenal are still leading the race to secure the signature of Declan Rice this summer, however the North London side face stiff competition from reigning Premier League and European champions Manchester City.
Declan Rice is the main priority signing for Mikel Arteta this summer and their pursuit of the Hammers player will, step-up a gear with a third bid set to be tabled this week. Manchester City have been stepping up their interest of late and this has resulted in Arsenal needing to ensure that any proposal closely meets the demands of West Ham United and gets a deal over the finish line. Rice’s preference is believed to be the Gunners and everything points towards him plying his trade at the Emirates Stadium next season.
Manchester City have high hopes of luting Rice to the Etihad Stadium but Arsenal will beat the European champions to the finish line if they can make an offer of at least £100 million or alternatively guarantee a sizeable fee to be paid upfront. City have also stated that they would only make an official bid on Rice were the player to make assurances that he would be happy to move to them.
Reports suggest that the 24-year-old is open to a move to either club during the summer, however Man City’s main priority lies elsewhere, RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol having agreed personal terms to move to Pep Guardiola’s side.
8/15 – Arsenal
7/4 – Manchester City
25/1 – To Stay at West Ham
25/1 – Manchester United
33/1 – Chelsea
Update: 15.06.23
Only a few days ago it seems more than likely that Declan Rice would be moving to Arsenal, however late interest from reigning Premier League champions Manchester City has thrown the race to secure his signature wide open.
Strong competition
Until yesterday, the transfer of Declan Rice from West Ham United to Arsenal seemed very much a certainty, Mikel Arteta’s side as low as 1/33 to add the 24-year-old to the squad (an implied chance of 97%). Nevertheless, while Arsenal remain strong odds-on favourites to lure him to the Emirates Stadium this summer at 1/3 (an implied chance of 75%), the North London outfit face strong competition in the market.
From bad to worse
With their initial offer for Rice being rejected by the Hammers, matters have gone from bad to worse with reports suggesting that defending Premier League champions Manchester City are interesting in signing him, Pep Guardiola’s side shortening from 25/1 to as low as 7/4 (best odds of 3/1). Will Rice be able to turn down a side which has won the Premier League title five times and six seasons, clinched a treble this term and which has just been crowned European champions?
Long-term favourites
Despite the interest being shown by Manchester City, many still believe that Rice will ultimately end up at the Emirates Stadium, the Gunners having been long-term favourites to sign the England midfielder.
1/3 – Arsenal
3/1 – Manchester City
18/1 – Chelsea
22/1 – Manchester United
25/1 – Bayern Munich
40/1 – Newcastle United
50/1 – Liverpool
50/1 – Real Madrid
66/1 – Tottenham Hotspur
Update: 12.06.23
The odds on West Ham United’s Declan Rice moving across the city to rivals Arsenal have been slashed even further and it appears likely that such a transfer will indeed take place this summer.
Main summer target
Three Lions midfielder Declan Rice is one of the main summer targets of Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta although while the Hammers have valued the player at £110 million, the likelihood is that Arsenal – and any other club come to that – will be unwilling to part with such a large amount.
Bidding
Nevertheless it is expected that the Gunners will be bidding for the player in the next few days and they will be facing stiff competition from the likes of Manchester United, Bayern Munich and perhaps reigning Premier League and Champions League champions Manchester City.
Greeted warmly
Many are convinced that the Emirates Stadium will be Rice’s destination this summer after images showed him being greeted warmly by Arsenal stars Aaron Ramsdale and Bukayo Saka when arriving at St George’s Park for Three Lions duty.
Odds slashed
On the back of these photos, the odds on Rice moving to the Gunners have been slashed with some bookmakers going as low as 1/4 that he moves to the North London club. Manchester United are a lowest price of 5/1 to tempt him to Old Trafford this summer (best odds of 9/1) while a handful of bookies go 10/1 that he stays at West Ham.
Other possible destinations
Bayern Munich are as high as 12/1 to get the player onto their books in the summer transfer window while Manchester City are a 13/1 shot. Newcastle United, Liverpool and Chelsea complete the top eight in the betting at best odds of 33/1 apiece.

West Ham skipper Declan Rice is reportedly on the move this summer and the indications are that he will move across the city to the Emirates Stadium before the start of the 2023/24 campaign.
Final appearance
Talk of a move to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal increased throughout the 2022/23 season and the Gunners are firm favourites to lure Declan Rice to the Emirates Stadium in the summer transfer window. Indeed, as recently as February the 41-cap England international was as high as 3/1 for a summer move to the Gunners but ahead of what is expected to be his last appearance for the Hammers in the Europa Conference League Final against Fiorentina on Wednesday evening, the 24-year-old is odds-on at 4/6 to join Arteta’s side.
Long-term replacement
Rice is being seen as an ideal long-term replacement for Granit Xhaka in the Arsenal midfield, alongside Thomas Partey. Nevertheless, should his destination not be the Emirates Stadium, it’s unclear where he might end up. Manchester United are next in the betting to secure Rice’s signature this summer but the likelihood is that Red Devils boss Erik Ten Hag will prioritise a summer move for Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane and a replacement between the sticks for David de Gea.
Big Movers
Bayern Munich have been one of the big movers in recent weeks with the odds on Rice moving to the Bundesliga outfit shortening from 14/1 on the day after the end of the Premier League season to as short as 3/1, some bookmakers going as high as 8/1 in this market.
4/6 – Arsenal
5/1 – Manchester United
8/1 – Bayern Munich
12/1 – Manchester City
20/1 – Chelsea
