Premier League Relegation Odds 2024/25: Southampton 1/5 for the drop
Update: 11.12.24
After eleven rounds of league fixtures, Southampton sit at the foot of the Premier League table with just a single win to their name and nine defeats.
It was never going to be easy for the three promoted sides from the Championship and true to form, Southampton, Ipswich Town and Leicester City are amongst the sides finding the going tough in the English top flight. The question is, will all three drop straight back to the second tier at the first time of asking?
Southampton – 1/5 for Relegation
Southampton’s struggles continued on Saturday afternoon when they lost 2-0 to fellow strugglers Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux. The south coast side have collected just four points from eleven Premier League outings and they sit four points adrift of safety after eleven rounds of league fixtures, the leading bookmakers going 1/5 that the Saints drop straight back to the Championship at the first time of asking.
Ipswich Town – 8/11 for Relegation
Ipswich got their first Premier League win of the season when they returned from the Tottenham Stadium with an excellent 2-1 victory at the weekend and this was enough to lift the Tractor Boys out of the bottom three in the Premier League table. The East Anglian outfit remain just a single point above the drop zone however and they are still one of the favourites to be relegated at the end of the campaign at best odds of just 8/11 .
Leicester City – 5/6 for Relegation
Leicester City’s winless run in the Premier League was extended to three games when they lost 3-0 at Manchester United on Sunday, this disappointing result coming on the back of a 1-1 draw with fellow strugglers Ipswich Town earlier this month. The East Midlands side currently sit three positions and three points clear of the relegation zone after eleven rounds of top-flight fixtures but the bookies have shortened the odds on them dropping straight back into the Championship to as low as 8/13 (best odds 5/6).
Update: 03.10.24
Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers are struggling at the wrong end of the Premier League table after six games.
Southampton – 2/7 for Relegation
Southampton’s woes continued at the weekend when they lost 3-1 along the road at local rivals Bournemouth, this disappointing result keeping them firmly in the bottom three in the league table with just a single point to their name. With six games gone, the Saints desperately need to find their feet in the Premier League but all things considered, it wouldn’t be a massive surprise to see them dropping straight back down to the Championship and the bookies go a best price of 2/7 that this proves to be the case.
Leicester City – 8/13 for Relegation
Leicester City took the 2023/24 Championship title in impressive fashion although there were a few wobbles at the latter stage of the campaign. These wobbles have continued in the Premier League and after six rounds of fixtures the Foxes find themselves sitting fourth from bottom of the division with just three points to their name. There’s every chance that the East Midlands side can turn things around at this early stage of the campaign but they are odds-on second favourites for the drop as things stand at best odds of 8/13.
Ipswich Town – 11/10 for Relegation
Ipswich Town took second place at the end of last season’s Championship campaign with just a single point separating them from winners Leicester City, however the Tractor Boys have steadied themselves in the Premier League following a poor start. Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna couldn’t have wished for a tougher start to the campaign and it was no huge surprise when his men came off second best against Liverpool (0-2) and Manchester City (4-1) in their opening two games. Since then Ipswich have shared the spoils in their subsequent four league outings and the odds on them dropping into the second tier have drifted slightly to 11/10 on the back of this four-game unbeaten run.
Update: 24.09.24
Southampton, Everton and Wolves are struggling at the bottom end of the Premier League table after five rounds of fixtures.
Things are hotting up in the race for the 2024/25 Premier League title and Manchester City lead the way despite their winning run coming to an end against Arsenal at the weekend. At the opposite end of the table, the likes of Wolves, Southampton and Everton are struggling to get going with all three sides collecting just a single point apiece.
Southampton – 2/5 for Relegation
Southampton collected their first point of the 2024/25 Premier League campaign when they held fellow strugglers Ipswich Town to a 1-1 draw at St Mary’s in their last outing on Saturday afternoon, however it has done absolutely nothing to ease the pressure on under-fire boss Russell Martin. The Saints manager is one of the favourites in the ‘Premier League Sack Race’ betting market while Southampton themselves are favourites to drop back down to the Championship at a best price of 2/5 (lowest odds 3/10).
Leicester City – 8/13 for Relegation
Leicester City have lost two of their opening five Premier League games this season but they are still in search of their first league win. The Foxes have shared the spoils with Crystal Palace (2-2) and fellow strugglers Everton (1-1) in their last two outings and they are heavily backed to make a swift return back to the Championship, the UK bookies going a best price of just 8/13 that the East Midlands side find themselves in the second tier next term.
Ipswich Town – Evens for Relegation
Ipswich Town are another side still searching for their first league win of the campaign, the Tractor Boys having also lost two and drawn three of their opening five Premier League matches. Having lifted themselves up from the Championship at the end of last season, the East Anglian outfit are finding the going extremely tough in the top tier and the bookies go a best price of Evens that their current stay in the Premier League is limited to just a single campaign.
Everton – 13/8 for Relegation
Everton’s last relegation from the top flight happened in 1950/51 but more than 70 years on it’s starting to look as though the Toffees will be in real danger of dropping into the Championship. With four defeats and just a single draw from their opening five league games, the Merseysiders are looking out of their depth and manager Sean Dyche is favourite in the ‘Sack Race’ market. With the club poised for a move to a brand new stadium and the hoped-for takeover set to take place, it’s looking as though a long season of struggle is on the cards with the bookies going 13/8 that it ends with relegation.
Update: 12.09.24
This season’s Premier League campaign is expected to be hugely competitive with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal pushing for the title, however the likes of Leicester City, Southampton and Ipswich Town are expected to struggle.
We’re now three rounds of fixtures into the 2024/25 Premier League season and while Manchester City and Liverpool have got their respective campaigns off to perfect starts prior to the international break, at the opposite end of the table a handful of teams are struggling. The question is, who will occupy the relegation places at the end of the season?
Leicester City – 4/11 for Relegation
2023/24 Championship title winners Leicester City were expected to take a while to get going in their first season back in the Premier League and so it has proved, the Foxes holding Tottenham Hotspur to a 1-1 draw in their season curtain-raiser but subsequently losing to Fulham (2-1) and Aston Villa (1-2) in their next two outings. After three rounds of fixtures, the East Midlands side sit in 15th position in the league table and the leading UK free bet bookmakers have them pencilled in as odds-on favourites to drop straight back down to the second tier at the first time of asking with some firms going as low as 4/11 (best odds 4/7).
Southampton – 4/7 for Relegation
Southampton hauled themselves up to the Premier League via the play-offs at the end of last season and the evidence thus far suggests that they weren’t quite ready for the move up. The south coast side are one of just two sides (the other being Everton) yet to claim their first league points of the campaign with defeats coming against Newcastle United (1-0), Nottingham Forest (0-1) and Brentford (3-1) and the bookies make them 4/7 second favourites for an immediate return back to the Championship.
Ipswich Town – Evens for Relegation
Ipswich Town finished as Championship runners-up at the end of last season and they are one of the sides tipped for relegation straight back down to the second tier. After three rounds of fixtures, the Tractor Boys have collected just a single point – courtesy of a 1-1 draw with Fulham last time out – and they were dumped out of the Carabao Cup following a penalty shoot-out defeat to League Two side AFC Wimbledon, the bookies going a best price of Evens for the East Anglian suffering relegation back to the second tier.

19.08.24
The 2024/25 Premier League campaign got underway on Friday evening and continued throughout the weekend, however newly-promoted Leicester City get their campaign underway when they entertain Tottenham Hotspur at the King Power Stadium this evening at 8pm.
The Premier League waved goodbye to Luton Town, Burnley and Sheffield United at the end of what was a very competitive 2023/24 season, while they welcomed Southampton, Ipswich Town and Leicester City from the second tier. There’s every chance that at least one of the newly promoted sides will make a swift return to the Championship at the end of the current campaign but will they go down alongside champions Manchester City?
Leicester City – 1/2 for Relegation
Leicester City clinched the Championship title at the end of 2023/24 but their lead over second-placed Ipswich Town after 46 rounds of fixtures was a mere one point. The Foxes will take a while to get going back in the top-flight and the bookmakers make them favourites for the drop at the end of 2024/25 at odds of just 1/2. The East Midlands side spent just a single season in the second tier after dropping out of the top-flight at the end of 2022/23, however they were the dominant team in the Championship for the vast majority of the campaign. Steve Cooper’s men get their season underway tonight when they face Tottenham Hotspur in what promises to be a tough assignment for the East Midlands outfit.
Ipswich Town – 10/11 for Relegation
Ipswich Town pushed Leicester City all the way in the battle for the Championship title but in the end they had to settle for second place. This was no huge disappointment given that just twelve months previously they had won promotion from the third tier of English football. Will the Tractor Boys keep their place in the top-flight at the end of next season or will they swiftly return to the Championship? They couldn’t have been given a tougher start to the season with an opening day meeting with Liverpool (against whom they lost 2-0) at Portman Road and a subsequent outing to Manchester City in their second game of the campaign.
Southampton – Evens for Relegation
Having finished in fourth position at the end of the regular 2023/24 Championship campaign, Southampton made it through to the play-off finals where they edged past Leeds United to the tune of 1-0, thus ensuring that they would return to the Premier League at the first time of asking. The south-coast club dropped out of the top-flight at the end of 2022/23 after finishing at the foot of the table with a mere 25 points and on the back of a 1-0 defeat at Newcastle United in their opening game of 2024/25, the bookies make them Evens for the drop this time around.
Everton – 5/2 for Relegation
Everton will be playing in their brand new stadium next season but there’s every chance that they will be in line for another season of struggle. The Toffees have had to contend with points deductions but they remain in the Premier League, however on the back of a hugely demoralising 3-0 defeat at home to Brighton on the opening weekend of the season, they find themselves at the foot of the table and 5/2 for the drop.
Manchester City – 14/1 for Relegation
One of the most startling additions at the top end of the Premier League Relegation market are champions Manchester City who are just 16/1 for the drop at the end of 2024/25 (in contrast, Arsenal are a 2000/1 shot). It seems unfathomable that Pep Guardiola’s men will follow up six titles in seven seasons by dropping down to the Championship, however their ongoing battle with the Premier League and the 115 charges placed against them means that there is every possibility that they will be deducted points.
Both Nottingham Forest and Everton were given points deductions for breaking financial fair-play rules, therefore the punishment could be huge if Man City are found guilty of even a small percentage of the charges against them. There’s a pretty large chance that City could be in line for some tough punishments somewhere down the line and as such, it’s no shock to see the odds on them being relegated shorten considerably. Nevertheless, there are still ten clubs priced lower in the market.
