England are favourites to win the 2023 Women’s World Cup but they will once again be put to the test when they face co-hosts Australia in the semi-final of the competition.

Excitement levels are heading towards fever pitch ahead of this eagerly anticipated World Cup semi-final and Australia’s nail-biting penalty shoot-out victory over France in the quarter-finals has given the home fans a real sense of belief that they can actually lift the trophy. The Matildas has already brushed aside the Olympic champions to the tune of 4-0 in the competition as well as a France side who are officially ranked as 5th in the world by FIFA, however a win over the Lionesses would top the lot.

To be fair, England have yet to find top gear and they have rode their luck several times along the way, however there’s little doubt that they have improved on their way to the semi-finals. Sarina Wiegman’s ladies have been a little shaky at times with Nigeria managing no less than sixteen shots against them in normal time and the meeting with Australia will be their most testing yet, however we envisage the Lionesses hitting full stride and securing for themselves a place in the final of the competition.
