Nottingham Forest v Everton Match Preview & Best Odds

Kick-off: 5.30pm, Saturday 2nd December 2023

Everton have sunk into the bottom three in the Premier League table after being handed a ten-point penalty earlier this month and they will be going in search of their first win since being hit by this penalty when they travel to the City Ground on Saturday afternoon.

Despite being handed a ten-point penalty, many believe that Everton will manage to retain their Premier League status after the end of the current campaign although while this may well prove to be the case, some might be having second thoughts on the back of the Toffees’ 3-0 defeat at home to Manchester United last time out. Indeed, with both AFC Bournemouth and Luton Town winning at the weekend – sides which occupy the two berths immediately above the drop zone – Everton now sit five points adrift of safety after thirteen rounds of fixtures. Having conceded to an Alejandro Garnacho goal before the break, some very slack defending by the Toffees allowed Manchester United to find the net twice in the second half although in fairness, this was only their third defeat in ten outings.

Without the ten point penalty in place, the Toffees would be just two points adrift of the top half of the Premier League table and on their travels, Sean Dyche’s men have won all-but-one of their last four with impressive victories over Crystal Palace, West Ham United and Brentford. As such, there’s every reason to believe that they can come away from the East Midlands with the points in the bag this weekend.

Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper is starting to feel the pressure on the back of a poor run, his side having managed just a single win from their last nine outings. The Tricky Trees have been plagued by defensive issues since the start of the season and they have lost six matches despite finding the net at least two times on each occasion. The East Midlands outfit have banged in two goals in all-but-one of their last five outings but have only collected four points in total during this time. As things stand, Forest sit eight points clear of the bottom three in the table but with Luton Town bagging a win last time out and Everton more than capable of claiming away from the danger zone, Cooper’s men cannot afford to drop many more points.

Forest must work hard to rectify their defensive issues but against an Everton side which have been very impressive on their travels this term, we cannot go against the visitors in this one. The home side will doubtless miss the attacking prowess of Taiwo Awoniyi who underwent a recent groin surgery and as such, we envisage the Toffees edging this one and boosting their chances of escaping the drop.
