Leeds Next Manager Odds: Daniel Farke appointed

Update: 05.07.23

Leeds United have finally confirmed the appointment of Daniel Farke as manager ahead of the 2022/23 Championship campaign, the former Norwich City boss signing a four-year deal with the Elland Road side.

Sam Allardyce failed to keep Leeds United in the Premier League at the end of last season and with ‘Big Sam’ ending his time with the West Yorkshire outfit, the search commenced for a suitable replacement. This replacement has now been found with the club appointing Daniel Farke as their new manager, his main remit to lift the club back into the top-flight at the first time of asking.

Farke won the Championship title twice with Norwich City and his playing career consisted of performing in the lower leagues in Germany, prior to moving into management with SV Lippstadt and Borussia Dortmund II. He enjoyed success at Norwich City and following a four-and-a-half year stint at Carrow Road he left the club in November 2021.

At the beginning of the 2022/23 campaign he took the reins at Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach and took them to a tenth-placed finish before leaving at the close of the season.

After taking the position at Elland Road, Farke said:

“I feel humble at this time, I know the responsibility to fulfil all the expectations and I want to repay the trust shown.

“The most important thing is to create a togetherness and unity within this club again and from today onwards, I will work on it with my staff and players, and I trust our supporters will be there when we need them. I can’t wait for the first game of the season.”

Update: 03.07.23

Last week Leeds United seemed to be on the verge of appointing former Norwich City boss Daniel Farke as their new manager, however the West Yorkshire club are yet to make an announcement as to whom their new head coach will be.

Takeover approval yet to be given

The Football League have yet to give their approval to the takeover of Leeds United by the 49ers Enterprises group and this has in turn delayed the appointment of a new manager following the departure of Sam Allardyce at the close of the 2022/23 campaign. The approval will be given the green light – that is almost certain – and the likelihood is that Farke will be given the job at Elland Road, he is after all the man which the club have been wanting all along. Everyone concerned with the club expect the appointment to go ahead, pending the confirmation that the takeover by 49ers Enterprises proceeds as planned.

Sacked by Dortmund

Farkle won the Championship title with Norwich City on two occasions and following his sacking by Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, he became available two months ago. Farke’s talks with Leeds United reportedly went extremely well and he allegedly made a good impression. The bookmakers go 1/6 that Farke is in charge of Leeds United on the opening game of the 2023/24 Championship campaign and as far as the fans are concerned, a deal cannot come quickly enough, especially since the pre-season campaign is on the verge of getting underway.

1/6  –  Daniel Farke

4/1  –  Patrick Vieira

10/1 –  Steven Gerrard

11/1 –  Scott Parker

12/1 –  Graham Potter

Update: 26.06.23

Leeds United’s search for a new manager could soon be over with the club reportedly on the verge of appointing former Norwich City boss Daniel Farke as successor to Sam Allardyce at Elland Road.

Sam Allardyce failed to keep Leeds United in the Premier League at the end of last season and following his decision to leave Elland Road, the search for a suitable replacement got underway. This search might soon be over following the news that Daniel Farke could be appointed in the coming days and the bookmakers have reacted by slashing the odds on the former Canaries boss taking the reins.

In recent weeks, the likes of Scott Parker and Patrick Vieira have also been linked to the vacant managerial hot-seat at Elland Road, however Daniel Farke has for some time been favourite to take charge ahead of the new season. In the pecking order, Farke is well ahead of the other cont5enders in the betting with some bookmakers going as low as 1/5 (best odds of 1/3) that he becomes the next manager of Leeds United.

Elsewhere, Patrick Vieira is next in the market at a general 3/1 although is now the only other contender at single figures.

Update: 21.06.23

Leeds United are continuing their search for a suitable replacement for Sam Allardyce although while Daniel Farke remains frontrunner for the vacant position, he faces some stiff competition from the likes of Patrick Vieira and Graham Potter.

Only a few days ago, Daniel fake was huge odds-on favourite to be the next manager of Championship side Leeds United, however his odds have drifted in recent days and he can now be backed as high as 2/1 on this market. Farke remains favourite to be appointed as Whites boss but it has now been reported that the club are looking to have discussions with former Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira with regard to the vacant managerial position.

Leeds United are now under new ownership with Andrea Radrizzani having sold the club to 49ers Enterprise although the Italian’s reign finished on a disappointing note as the side dropped down from the Premier League, the appointment of Sam Allardyce unable to turn around the team’s fortunes. With the Whites now set to ply their trade in the Championship for the first time since 2020, there will be wholesale changes heading their way for the new campaign and this will include a completely revamped management team as well as a handful of new players.

With the new season starting in less than two months, the club will be eager to get the ball rolling as soon as possible and their main focus will clearly be on appointing a new manager. Vieira is very much in the running here with some bookmakers going as low as 11/10 that he finds himself in the hot-seat at the start of the 2023/24 season (best odds of 3/1)

Other names in the frame include Graham Potter (best odds 12/1) and Scott Parker (best odds 16/1), however as things stand this is very much a two-horse race between Daniel Farke and Patrick Vieira.

Update: 15.06.23

Leeds United are stepping up their search for a new manager ahead of the 2023/24 Championship campaign and at the time of writing, Daniel Farke is odds-on to take charge at Elland Road this summer.

Head and shoulders above the rest

The leading UK bookmakers have slashed the odds on Daniel Farke taking the reins at recently-relegated Leeds United before the start of next season, some firms going as low as 5/6 that he soon finds himself in the hot-seat. This is an implied 55.6% chance that he succeeds Sam Allardyce who failed to keep the Whites in the top-flight. The 46-year-old took Norwich City from the Championship into the Premier League on two separate occasions and while he is priced as high as 5/4 to be the next Leeds boss, he sits head and shoulders above the rest of the contenders in the betting.

Departure from the Bundesliga

Farke was at Norwich City for four seasons between 2017 and 2021, however despite lifting the Canaries into the top-flight on two occasions, the side were immediately relegated both times. At the start of June he vacated his position at Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund having spent just a single season there and since his departure, the bookmakers have continuously shortened the odds on a move to West Yorkshire.

Best of the rest

Second in the betting to take charge at Elland Road is former Brighton & Hove Albion and Chelsea boss Graham Potter who is priced as low as 3/1 (and as high as 6/1), while former favourite Carlos Corberan is also as high as 6/1 in the betting. Patrick Vieira and Brendan Rodgers complete the top five in the market at best odds of 12/1 and 16/1 respectively.

Update: 12.06.23

Leeds United are continuing their search for a new manager as the 2023/24 Championship campaign edges ever closer and at the time of writing, Daniel Farke is favourite to take the reins with Steven Gerrard close behind in the betting.

Former Norwich City boss Daniel Farke is set to hold talks with Leeds United regarding the possibility of taking the reins at Elland Road ahead of the new campaign. Leeds will be desperate to haul themselves back up to the Premier League at the first time of asking and they are sounding out several options to replace Sam Allardyce, including the likes of Carlos Corberan and Steven Gerrard.

Indeed Corberan and former Aston Villa boss Gerrard are amongst the market leaders at odds as low as 2/1 apiece, however Daniel Farke is priced as short as 7/4 (best odds of 3/1) to be the next manager of the West Yorkshire club.

The German has reportedly held talks with Celtic who are searching for a suitable replacement for recently-departed Ange Postecoglou although while Farke hasn’t yet spoken with Leeds United, it is expected that this will be rectified in the coming days.

Brendan Rodgers is firm odds-on favourite to replace Postecoglou at Celtic Park and should the former Leicester City boss take the position, then Farke would likely be first win line for the Elland Road job. The Whites would certainly be daft not to jump at a chance of getting hold of a manager who has proven himself to be an expert in the English second tier and it seems very much as though he could soon be on his way to West Yorkshire.

06.06.23

With Sam Allardyce not having his contract with Leeds United renewed for the 2023/24 season, the West Yorkshire club are on the hunt for a suitable replacement as they prepare for their Championship campaign.

Leeds United have revealed that they will be searching for a new permanent manager and the likelihood is that they won’t be in the market for a traditional figure such as Sam Allardyce. Big Sam failed to keep the West Yorkshire side in the Premier League and they are now preparing to challenge for promotion straight back up to the top-flight in the 2023/24 campaign.

The leading contender to replace Allardyce in the Elland Road hot-seat is West Bromwich Albion head coach Carlos Corberan, many of the opinion that he would be ideal as a long-term prospect. The Baggies are reportedly bracing themselves for an approach from Leeds United, Corberan’s long-term future with the West Midlands club in doubt amidst a backdrop of financial concerns at the Hawthorns. Following the sacking of Jesse Marsch last term, Corberan knocked back Leeds United advances and instead decided to pen a new deal with West Brom which could see him stay at the Hawthorns until 2027.

He initially took charge at West Bromwich Albion in October 2022 and steered the side to an eighth-placed finish in the Championship with 16 wins in his 30 league outings in charge.

Other notable contenders for the position include Steven Gerrard, Brendan Rodgers and Scott Parker.
