Looking to continue from where they left off prior to the international break, Jurgen Klopp’s men do battle with Wolverhampton Wanderers in a Saturday lunchtime Premier League clash at Molineux.
In their fourth outing of the 2023/24 Premier League campaign, Liverpool brushed aside Aston Villa to the tune of 3-0 while their weekend opponents Wolves went down 3-2 to Crystal Palace in their last outing. Gary O’Neil’s side managed to keep the South Londoners throughout the first half without threatening that much themselves, however the second half was somewhat more frenetic with both sides’ attackers dazzling with five goals being scored after the break. Unfortunately for Wolves, three found their way into the back of their own net and the Midlanders now find themselves languishing in 15th position ahead of their weekend meeting with the Reds.
Thus far on home soil, Wolves have only lost once this season – a 4-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion – but prior to this they had cobbled together a five-game unbeaten run at Molineux.
Liverpool were expected to be up against it without their first choice centre-backs against a free-scoring Aston Villa two weeks ago, however Klopp’s men put three past the West Midlanders without reply in what was a relatively comfortable victory. With the exception of Manchester City, only Spurs have performed better than the Reds thanks to a slightly superior goal difference and the Reds have avoided defeat in each of their last fifteen league outings with goals scored by them in all-but-one.
It’s possible that an ongoing selection issue could jeopardise Liverpool’s chances of bagging a fourth successive victory but we envisage the visitors holding tight against an inconsistent home attack here. O’Neil’s men should have difficulty stopping the Liverpool juggernaut on Saturday and a win-to-nil looks the order of the day as far as we’re concerned.
