Rangers v Kilmarnock Odds & Match Preview
Kick-off: 7.45pm UK Time, Wednesday 4th December 2024
Rangers will be desperate to narrow the sizeable gap which exists between themselves and the top two in the Scottish Premiership table when they entertain Kilmarnock at Ibrox tonight.
A man under pressure
Philippe Clement has been a man under pressure since the start of the season, however the burden has been lifted somewhat on the back of some solid recent performances. Clement suffered just a single defeat in his first 28 games as Rangers boss, however towards the end of last season there was a dramatic collapse which signalled a turbulent spell, the side’s next 38 competitive outings returning ten defeats. This downturn included the Gers making a dreadful start to the 2024/25 Scottish Premiership campaign and after thirteen rounds of fixtures, Clement’s men find themselves trailing arch-rivals Celtic by eleven points.
Out of sight
Nevertheless, while this does seem like an insurmountable gap – with Celtic having won eleven and drawn one of their opening twelve Premiership games while showing no signs of slowing down any time soon – Rangers do seem to have turned things around of late with four wins and two draws from their last six matches. Indeed, while the Hoops are realistically out of sight in the race for the domestic crown, second-placed Aberdeen are just seven points above Rangers with the Dons having played one game more. Clement’s men will be looking for nothing less than three points tonight as they seek to close this seven-point gap in the coming weeks.
Few highlights
Kilmarnock have had very few highlights thus far this season but they will nevertheless take plenty of confidence from their 1-0 win over Rangers in the reverse fixture earlier in the campaign, Marley Watkins scoring in the 87th minute to secure the three points for the Ayrshire side on that occasion. Nevertheless, Rangers are yet to be beaten at Ibrox this season whilst on Premiership duty and this in itself leads us to believe that they can get the three points in the bag this evening.
