The worst ranked nation in the world were swept aside by Northern Ireland in their last Euro 2024 qualifier but Michael O’Neill’s men are out of contention for a top two finish in Group H due to wins for Denmark and Slovenia who are both looking well placed to make it into the Euros next summer. The Northern Irish will pin their hopes on securing a place in the play-offs but their aim of recording back-to-back wins for the first time in just over two years looks rather unlikely against a Slovenia side who have impressed thus far in the qualifiers.

Slovenia have failed to qualify for the European Championships since 2000 and whatever happens this week they can’t assure themselves of qualification. The likelihood is that a winner-takes-all clash will be on the cards against Denmark who sit level on points with Matjaz Kek’s men. Slovenia scored four goals in a six-goal thriller against Northern Ireland in the last meeting between the sides earlier in the campaign and we envisage both sides adding to the scoreline this time around.
