Update: 28.05.24
The odds have once again been slashed on German coach Tim Walter taking the reins at Championship side Hull City following the recent sacking of Liam Rosenior at the MKM Stadium.
Hunt for a suitable successor
Liam Rosenior was sacked by Hull City earlier this month and the Tigers are on the hunt for a suitable successor ahead of the 2024/25 Championship campaign. The East Yorkshire side failed to make it into the play-offs at the end of the regular campaign with just six points separating them from the top six in the league table and it is looking more likely than not that Tim Walter will be the man in charge when the new season gets underway in a little over two months’ time.
Main target
Liam Rosenior’s replacement will become the third manager for Hull City since the club was taken over by Acun Ilicali in January 2022 and the owner allegedly met Walter in Monaco and Munich. The ex Hamburg boss was confirmed as being the main target for Ilicali and he was almost 100% certain that he will be appointed as new Hull City boss within the next week or so. Nevertheless, Walter is attracting interest from a number of other clubs and this certainly isn’t a done deal as yet.
Huge favourite to take the reins
As things stand, Tim Walter is huge favourite to take the reins at the MKM Stadium and realistically it seems only a matter of time before his appointment is announced. The leading UK bookmakers go a best price of just 1/5 that Walter proves to be Liam Rosenior’s successor at Hull City, his closest rivals in the betting being Paul Heckingbottom at a distant 4/1 and William Still at 16/1, the latter linked with a move to Sunderland where he is firm favourite in the Next Sunderland Manager betting market.
1/5 – Tim Walter
4/1 – Paul Heckingbottom
16/1 – William Still
25/1 – Erol Bulut
25/1 – Ashley Cole
Update: 22.05.24
Hull City continue to hold talks with Tim Walter with regard to him taking charge of Hull City following the departure of Liam Rosenior who was dismissed a fortnight ago.
Hunt for a suitable replacement
Tim Walter remains hot favourite to take the reins at Hull City, the Championship side on the hunt for a suitable replacement for Liam Rosenior who was sacked two weeks ago. Hull City finished their Championship campaign in seventh position with just three points separating them from the play-off berths and it is looking more likely that Walter will be in charge for the 2024/25 campaign.
No guarantees
Walter’s last position was back in his native Germany as manager of Hamburg SV where he was very popular. He spent two seasons with the 2.Bundesliga outfit but he was unable to steer the side into the top tier during his time in the dugout. There are no guarantees that Walter’s style of play will bring immediate results for Hull City but it would appear that the club owner Acun Iliaci is happy to take a chance on him.
Closest rivals
As things stand, Walter is a best price of just 1/2 to be the next Hull City manager, while his closest rivals in the betting are Paul Heckingbottom and Will Still.
1/2 – Tim Walter
2/1 – Paul Heckingbottom
14/1 – William Still
14/1 – Danny Rohl
16/1 – Ashley Cole
Update: 16.05.24
Despite steering his side to a top-seven position at the end of the 2023/24 Championship campaign, Hull City boss Liam Rosenior was dismissed by the club and the indications are that Tim Walter will be the man to replace him in the hot-seat.
Talks continuing
Hull City are continuing their talks with former Hamburg manager Tim Walter and the chances are that the East Yorkshire club will appoint the 48-year-old within the next few days. The Tigers have been without a permanent manager since Liam Rosenior was dismissed earlier this month and they have been having talks with attack-minded Walter for a week.
Massive favourite
At the time of writing, Walter is massive favourite to be the next manager of Hull City with the bookmakers going a best price of 1/2 that he is in charge at the MKM Stadium very soon. Next in the betting is Paul Heckingbottom at a best price of 3/1 while Danny Rohl and William Still are priced at best odds of 14/1 and 16/1 respectively, the latter expected to become the next Sunderland manager. The Black Cats are still in search of a suitable replacement for Michael Beale who was at the Stadium of Light for two months.
1/2 – Tim Walter
3/1 – Paul Heckingbottom
14/1 – Danny Rohl
16/1 – William Still

On his way to pastures new
The Tigers are looking for a successor to Liam Rosenior who was dismissed at the end of the season, allegedly over a differing opinion on his style of football. Rosenior had signed a three-year contract in December 2023 which should have kept him at the MKM Stadium until 2026, however after eighteen months at the helm he is on his way to pastures new.
Surprise favourite
Surprise favourite to take the reins at Hull City is none other than Steve Cooper, the former Nottingham Forest manager currently priced at 10/3 to succeed Rosenior at the MKM Stadium. Cooper was sacked by the Tricky Trees in December 2023 and he would be something of a surprise appointment given that he has been linked with a move to a number of Premier League clubs since his departure from the City Ground, including Crystal Palace. He was also linked with a move to Birmingham City following the sacking of Wayne Rooney.
Leading contenders
Danny Rohl is another leading contender for the vacant position, the Sheffield Wednesday boss taking the Owls from the bottom of the Championship when he arrived at Hillsborough, to 20th position and three points above the drop zone at the end of the 2023/24 campaign. William Still is another leading contender for the position, the former Reims boss also linked with a move to Sunderland.
10/3 – Steve Cooper
4/1 – Danny Rohl
9/2 – William Still
9/1 – Erol Bulut
12/1 – Faith Terim
14/1 – Shaun Maloney
