Update: 17.06.24
Brighton & Hove Albion have been hunting high and low for a new manager following the departure of Roberto De Zerbi and the club have appointed 31-year-old Fabian Hurzeler.
Youngest full-time Premier League manager
There have been many young managers in the Premier League but none more so than Fabian Hurzeler who, at just 31 years of age, becomes the youngest ever full-time manager of a Premier League club after being appointed as Roberto De Zerbi’s successor at Brighton & Hove Albion. Hurzeler took previous club St Pauli to the Bundesliga 2 title at the end of the 2023/24 campaign with wins in 20 of his 34 games in charge and he signed a contract which should have kept him at the club until 2027.
Pre-season preparations
Nevertheless, Brighton managed to lure him to the Amex Stadium where he will start work once a work permit has been secured. The club’s pre-season preparations will get underway in July and the new boss should be in place by then. Tony Bloom (Brighton & Hove Albion chairman) said that Hurzeler’s work at St Pauli made him a ‘standout candidate’ to replace recently-departed Roberto De Zerbi and he has a style of football which fully aligns with how the Seagulls want to play.
Success as a manager
Indeed, at just 31, Hurzeler is younger than some of Brighton’s more senior players such as Lewis Dunk (32), Danny Welbeck (33) and James Milner (38). His CV is far from extensive but he has enjoyed success as a manager and possesses a commitment to a similar style of football to that of previous Brighton managers Graham Potter and De Zerbi.
Update: 11.06.24
Brighton are still searching hard for a new manager following the departure of Roberto De Zerbi and a familiar name has stormed to the top of the betting market in the form of Fabian Hurzeler.
Odds-on favourite
Many names are being linked with the vacant managerial position at Brighton & Hove Albion but there is an out-and-out favourite in the betting, in the form of Fabian Hurzeler who is odds-on to take charge with many betting sites. Should Herzeler take charge of the south-coast club, he would become the Premier League’s youngest ever manager at just 31 years of age.
Rave reviews
The American-born manager is currently in charge of FC St. Pauli and he has earned rave reviews for his managerial style, however it now seems likely that he will make the move to the Premier League and more specifically, Brighton & Hove Albion during the summer. Indeed, reports suggest that Hurzeler has agreed personal terms with the Seagulls and that negotiations between Brighton and St.Pauli have been positive thus far.
Options open
Graham Potter had been a consideration for the vacant Brighton position but it is understood that he isn’t now an option, the former Seagulls boss said to be keeping his future options open just in case England manager Gareth Southgate calls time after the 2024 European Championships.
Pen to paper
Brighton were also keen on signing Kieran McKenna as manager but he has put pen to paper in a new deal with Ipswich Town who have won promotion to the Premier League. Malmo manager Henrik Rydstrom was another name in the frame to be appointed as Brighton boss but as things stand, the club only have eyes on Hurzeler.
Update: 06.06.24
Since leaving Chelsea during the 2022/23 Premier League campaign, Potter has been out of work but the former Brighton manager is now firm favourite to return to the Amex Stadium at a best price of 11/8 (lowest odds 1/2).
This is a slight drift from the 10/11 available a few days ago but he is still out and out favourite to take the reins at the south coast club this summer. Indeed, it now seems likely that Potter will make a return to the club which he left less than two years ago (September 2022).
Genuine contender
Having joined Brighton & Hove Albion six years ago, Potter completely transformed the style of play at the club into a more possession-based approach before leaving for Chelsea. Steve Cooper is also a genuine contender for the position, the former Nottingham Forest second favourite at a best price of 7/2. Nevertheless, Cooper is firm favourite to be named as next Leicester City manager with most betting sites going odds-on that he takes charge at the King Power Stadium.
11/8 – Graham Potter
7/2 – Steve Cooper
7/1 – Henrik Rydstrom
10/1 – Russell Martin
16/1 – Liam Rosenior
Update: 26.05.24
Francesco Farioli is a relative unknown to many English football fans but the Italian is now favourite to succeed recently-departed Roberto De Zerbi at Brighton & Hove Albion.
Top five finish
With Mauricio Pochettino having left Chelsea, former favourite for the vacant Brighton & Hove Albion hot-seat, Kieran McKenna, has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge. As a result, he has been replaced at the top of the ‘Next Brighton Manager’ market by Francesco Farioli who was assistant to De Zerbi at both Sassuolo and Benevento prior to taking the reins at Fatih Karagumruk. He took charge at Ligue 1 side Nice in June last year and took them to a top five finish in the league and he is currently priced at just 6/4 to take the reins at the Amex Stadium this summer.
Immediately installed as favourite
When De Zerbi announced his intention to leave Brighton, Kieran McKenna was immediately installed as favourite to replace him at the south-coast club. The Northern Irish manager had lifted Ipswich Town from League One to the Premier League in back-to-back promotions but having been linked with a move to the Seagulls, the subsequent departure of Mauricio Pochettino from Stamford Bridge has opened up a potential new route for McKenna and his odds on taking charge at the Amex Stadium have drifted to a best price of 2/1 ( lowest odds Evens).
Other contenders
Other names linked with the vacant Brighton hot-seat include Russell Martin at a best price of 10/1, Burnley manager Vincent Kompany at 16/1 and former Seagulls boss Graham Potter, also at 16/1.
6/4 – Francesco Farioli
2/1 – Kieran McKenna
10/1 – Russell Martin
16/1 – Vincent Kompany
16/1 – Graham Potter
25/1 – Liam Rosenior

Disappointing result
Brighton’s 2-0 defeat at home to Manchester United meant that they finished in eleventh position in the Premier League table and on the back of that disappointing result, manager Roberto De Zerbi announced that his time at the club would be at an end.
Highest finishing position
The Italian penned a four-year deal with Brighton in September 2022 and he led the side to a top six finish in the Premier League in 2022/23, the highest finishing position that the Seagulls have ever enjoyed. The likelihood is that De Zerbi will take the vacant position at Bayern Munich but he has also been linked with a potential move to Old Trafford in the event that Erik Ten Hag leaves Manchester United.
Back-to-back promotions
Kieran Mckenna is current market leader in the race to succeed De Zerbi with some bookies going as low as 4/6 (best price 11/10). McKenna has taken Ipswich Town from League One to the Premier League via back-to-back promotions and he is firm favourite to take the reins at the Amex Stadium.
Top five finish
Francesco Farioli is another name linked with the vacant hot-seat at Brighton, the Nice manager having steered his side to a top five finish in Ligue One but also linked with a move to Ajax this summer. Farioli is currently a best price of 11/2 to swap the south of France with the south of England.
11/10 – Kieran McKenna
11/2 – Francesco Farioli
9/1 – Rob Edwards
10/1 – Russell Martin
14/1 – Graham Potter
18/1 – Liam Rosenior
