Update: 16.07.24

The 2024/25 Premier League campaign is fast approaching and a new regime starting at Manchester United under Jim Ratcliffe, many players in the team find themselves on the chopping block, including Marcus Rashford.

Fresh energy

Erik Ten Hag has made it clear that Manchester United need ‘fresh energy’ ahead of the 2024/25 campaign and as such, there may well be a big overhaul in the team over the next few weeks. One of the casualties of such an overhaul could be Marcus Rashford who is being linked with a transfer away from his boyhood club on the back of some poor form.

Pre-season defeat

While Rashford played no part in England’s participation in Euro 2024 where they made it through to the final of the competition, he was present in United’s opening pre-season friendly with Norwegian side Rosenborg, a match in which the Red Devils lost 1-0.

Big price tag

While Rashford lost his place as one of the main forwards under Erik Ten Hag last season with just eight goals to his name, Manchester United have been looking to prevent his exit by attaching a big price tag to the player. Indeed, after being linked with a move to several other European clubs this summer, the bookies go just 2/7 that he starts the 2024/25 campaign at Old Trafford.

Potential destinations

A move elsewhere is still a high possibility and should this be the case, French side PSG are deemed the side most likely to secure his signature at a best price of 5/1 (lowest odds 5/2) while Barcelona are a 6/1 punt to tempt him to the Nou Camp. Arsenal are 11/1 to bring him to the Emirates Stadium this summer while Bayern Munich complete the top five in the betting at best odds of 28/1 (lowest price 12/1).

Update: 04.07.24

The fact that Manchester United are ready and more than willing to slash their valuation of Marcus Rashford suggests that they really do want to offload him as soon as possible and have no part for him to play in the Red Devils squad for the new campaign.

Off the books

As they look to get rid of Marcus Rashford this summer, Manchester United seem prepared to lower their asking price for the England international. The Old Trafford outfit are hoping to offload the player during the summer transfer window and reports of a big fallout between the 26-year-old and manager Erik Ten Hag suggest that the play’s future at the club will soon be at an end. United initially wanted approximately £80 million for Rashford but reports now suggest that they would be happy to accept £60 million in order to get him off the books.

Popularity waned

Having made over 400 appearances for the senior team across all competitions, Rashford came through the United youth academy. His popularity has waned of late on the back of some poor performances and off-field behaviour, while the decision by the club to keep Erik Ten Hag as manager meant that Rashford’s fate was sealed. French side PSG are reportedly interested in securing the signature of the attacker during the summer after they lost Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer to Real Madrid, however Barcelona are still favourites to sign him.

Bounce back

Either way, after missing out on a place in Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad, Rashford will be looking to put a disappointing 2023/24 campaign behind him and bounce back for the new season. Where exactly he does bounce back remains to be seen.

Update: 01.07.24

The chances are that Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford may soon be on the move from Old Trafford following the news that Erik Ten Hag is to stay on as Red Devils boss with an extended contract.

Music to the ears

Marcus Rashford won’t have welcomed the news that Erik Ten Hag is to remain as boss of Manchester United, especially since the player has very much found himself out of favour with the Dutchman. Indeed, Rashford had a disappointing 2023/24 season and was often sidelined as a result of this poor form. In 43 matches he found the back of the net just eight times and he was left out of the England squad for Euro 2024.

Best interests

With Ten Hag once again to be in the dugout for the 2024/25 campaign, the likelihood is that a transfer for Rashford may well be in the best interests of the player and the club. The favoured destination for the 26-year-old is Barcelona who are a best price of 13/8 to secure his signature, the Catalans having been linked with Rashford in the past.

Shoes hard to fill

PSG are another short-priced contender to get their hands on Rashford and he would certainly be a good option for the French side given that they have recently waved goodbye to Kylian Mbappe, a player whose shoes will be extremely hard to fill.

Premier League

Premier League side Arsenal are next in the betting to sign Marcus Rashford and they are priced at best odds of 9/1 to keep the player in the Premier League, while Bundesliga outfit Bayern Munich are 12/1 to get their man this summer.

18.06.24

There’s every chance that Marcus Rashford may soon be on the move, the player having struggled under Erik Ten Hag who will still be in the dugout at the start of 2024/25.

One of his worst ever seasons

Manchester United announced last night that they will be keeping Erik Ten Hag as manager for the new season following a post-season review by the club owners, however this might result in the departure of some out-of-favour players including Marcus Rashford. With just eight goals in 43 matches and an average of just 60 minutes playing time each outing throughout 2023/24, the player has endured one of his worst ever seasons and has found himself sidelined on the back of his poor form.

Best interests

Due to his poor form, Rashford has failed to get a spot in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the 2024 European Championships and there’s every chance that he will move away from Old Trafford during the summer. Now that Ten Hag is on the verge of signing an extension to his contract of twelve months, it is becoming clear that a move for the 26-year-old may be in the best interests of both club and player.

Complete overhaul

At the time of writing, Barcelona seems the most likely destination for Rashford with the bookmakers going a best price of 13/8 that he ends up at the Nou Camp. The Catalan giants have been linked with the player before and the club’s new owners won’t think twice about doing a complete overhaul before the new season.

Other contenders

Paris Saint-Germain are known to have been interested in Rashford for some time now and they are second favourites to secure his signature at a best price of 11/4 while Arsenal are a 9/1 shot to get him on their books.
