England have made it through to the quarter-finals of the 2024 European Championships and despite some extremely disjointed and tactically inept performances thus far, Southgate’s men are favourites to lift the trophy in Germany.

We’re now into the quarter-finals of the 2024 European Championships and as things stand, England remain favourites to win the competition, partly on account of their perceived favourable pairing with Switzerland. Nevertheless, the Swiss dumped defending European champions Italy out of the competition at the last stage and they are more than capable of brushing aside an inept Three Lions on Saturday evening.

The quarter-finals get underway on Friday evening when Spain and hosts Germany lock horns in what has the makings of a thoroughly entertaining affair at 5pm (Full live coverage on ITV1). Spain have been perhaps the standout side in the competition but they will face their biggest test thus far against the tournament host nation. In a repeat of the 2016 European Championships final, France and Portugal do battle at 8pm on Friday evening in what could also be a thrilling encounter (Full live coverage on BBC One).

England do battle with Switzerland on Saturday evening at 5pm (Full live coverage on BBC One), Gareth Southgate under pressure to show some tactical improvement in this must-win game, while the Netherlands and Turkey should serve up a feast of football when they go head-to-head at 8pm the same evening (Full live coverage on ITV1).

Update: 01.07.24

We’re now in the midst of the last sixteen stage of the 2024 European Championships and the big story thus far has been the exit of defending champions Italy who lost 2-0 to Switzerland at the weekend. The other notable story has been the performances of beaten Euro 2020 finalists England which can be best described as hugely frustrating. The Three Lions can boast one of the best squads in the competition yet they have seemed lacking in all areas and devoid of ideas. Much of the blame can be laid squarely at the feet of Gareth Southgate and had it not been for a late equaliser in their last-sixteen clash with Slovenia last night, the fallout on the England boss would have been huge.

Nevertheless, England have been favourites to lift the trophy since the start of the tournament and they remain at the top of the betting today, despite being less than two minutes away from defeat last night. The leading bookmakers go a best price of 4/1 (lowest odds 3/1) on the Three Lions becoming European champions for the first time ever but should they fail to put in a better showing against Switzerland in their last-eight outing, they will surely be dumped out of the competition.

On the back of a thoroughly convincing 4-1 demolition of Georgia yesterday, Spain are next in the betting at a best price of 4/1 (lowest odds 7/2) to be crowned European champions. Luis de la Fuente’s men have been the standout side in the competition thus far with wins in each of their four outings although they face a tough assignment in their quarter-final tie with hosts Germany who are third favourites at a best price of 9/2.

Elsewhere, France are a 7/1 shot to be crowned European champions while 2016 champions Portugal complete the top five in the betting at best odds of 8/1.

The group stages of the 2024 European Championships are now at an end and we now know who will be contesting the last sixteen round of the tournament. England managed to haul themselves into the last sixteen as Group C winners despite collecting just five points from their three games (win over Serbia, draws with Denmark and Slovenia), the Three Lions back into favourites to win the competition (best price 4/1, lowest odds 7/2) despite putting in some throughly underwhelming performances in their group.

Scotland were the first side to drop out of the competition after picking up just a single point from their three Group A games and finishing at the bottom of the pile, however hosts Germany made it through to the last sixteen as group champions and they are third favourites at best odds of 6/1, behind Spain (9/2) who were the only side to claim a maximum points haul from their three group outings.

Elsewhere, France finished second behind Austria in Group D, Les Bleus a best price of 13/2 to go all the way in the tournament, while Portugal are best odds of 15/2 to repeat their success of 2016 after finishing in pole position in Group F. Defending champions Italy collected a mere four points from their three group outings and they are a best price of 18/1 for success this time around.

18.06.24

England got their Euro 2024 campaign underway with an important but far from convincing victory over Serbia in their tournament opener on Sunday evening, Jude Bellingham scoring the only game of the match in the first half. Gareth Southgate’s men soaked up the pressure in the latter stages of the first half and were under the cosh for the majority of the second half, however the Three Lions held firm and claimed a maximum points haul in what was a tough encounter in Gelsenkirchen.

Elsewhere, France needed an own goal from Austria’s Max Wober to secure victory in their tournament opener on Monday evening, while defending champions Italy got things off to a bright if unconvincing start with a 2-1 victory over Albania with all three goals coming in the opening sixteen minutes. Spain thumped Croatia 3-0 in their tournament opener while fancied Belgium lost 1-0 to Slovakia in one of the surprises of the tournament thus far.

On the back of their slender victory, Gareth Southgate’s men remain favourites to win the competition for the first time in their history at a best price of 4/1 (lowest odds 3/1), ahead of second-favourites France who open their account with a meeting with Austria this evening, Les Bleus a best price of 9/2 (shortest odds 15/4) to go all the way in Germany this summer. Hosts Germany are a 5/1 shot for success on home soil following their 5-1 demolition of a pitiful Scotland in the tournament curtain-raiser, while Euro 2016 winners Portugal complete the top four in the betting at a best price of 7/1.

The European Championships get underway later next week.

Each nation competing in the 2024 European Championships are busy conducting their final preparations ahead of the tournament, thus offering their fans a glimpse of their respective squads before they jet off to Germany later this month. Current favourites to lift the trophy are 2020 finalists England, however can the Three Lions lift the trophy for the first time in their history?

Under Gareth Southgate, the Three Lions have been playing with a renewed sense of confidence and there’s every reason to believe that this competition could prove to be their turning point following a series of near misses. Within the squad there is a clear abundance of talent with the likes of Manchester City’s Phil Foden, Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham and Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, as well as skipper Harry Kane who will be desperate to earn his first international medal.

As such, it should come as a surprise to no-one to learn that England are favourites ahead of the competition and you can guarantee yourself the very best Euro 2024 betting odds on the Three Lions when registering with any of our featured football betting sites where you can also claim some mouthwatering free bet offers on the tournament.

Second favourites to win Euro 2024 are 2022 World Cup finalists France at a best price of 4/1, while hosts Germany are next in the betting to claim the trophy on home soil.
