Manchester United have sacked Erik ten Hag
Erik ten Hag has been dismissed as manager by Manchester United. Ruud van Nistelrooy will take the reins in an interim capacity until a suitable replacement has been found.
Manchester United have parted company with Erik ten Hag after the Dutchman was sacked this morning on the back of yesterday’s 2-1 defeat to West Ham United at the London Stadium.
Erik ten Hag Sacked
Manchester United have dismissed Erik ten Hag following a disappointing 2-1 defeat to West Ham United, a result which left the Red Devils sitting in 14th position in the Premier League table. The Dutchman was appointed as first team manager in April 2022 and he steered the club to two trophies during his time in charge, namely the 2022/2023 Carabao Cup and the 2023/24 FA Cup.
Three wins from nine
Ten Hag has failed to re-establish Manchester United as a competitive outfit in the upper reaches of the Premier League, the side finishing a disappointing eighth in the table last term and leaving the Champions League in the group stages of the competition. Thus far in 2024/25, United have managed wins in just three of their nine Premier League games, this poor run including 3-0 defeats to Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, both at Old Trafford.
Suitable replacement
Having opted to stick with the Dutchman at the end of the 2023/24 campaign, the United hierarchy will begin the process of appointing a suitable replacement. Thomas Tuchel is out of the running after accepting the England position, however there will be no shortage of contenders to be named Next Manager of Manchester United.
Unanimous
It is understood that the decision to sack Ten Hag has been a unanimous one and that, while the new Ineos led executive wanted continuity in a time of big change for the club, they came to the clear conclusion that the momentum isn’t there and that the club weren’t on the right path under the current manager.
