Coventry City v Blackburn Rovers Match Preview & Best Odds

Kick-off: 7:45pm UK Time, Wednesday 4th October 2023

Coventry City and Blackburn Rovers both reside in the bottom half of the Championship table and they lock horns in the West Midlands in what has the makings of a closely-fought encounter this evening.

Having lost both Viktor Gyokeres and Gustavo Haver, Coventry City manager Mark Robins might have been forgiven for expecting a hangover but he certainly wouldn’t have envisaged his side managing just a single win from their opening eight Championship games. In fairness, the Sky Blues lost just twice during this time with five draws along the way and they head into tonight’s meeting with Blackburn Rovers on the back of a 3-1 win away to Queens Park Rangers.

Thus far, Coventry have collected eleven points from their nine league outings and five points separate them from the top six in the Championship table as things stand, yet Robins will be of the opinion that his men are at least moving in a positive direction. Goals certainly aren’t a concern with fifteen being scored in league action thus far, while eleven have been conceded during this time, just one more than league leaders Ipswich Town. That said, Coventry haven’t managed a clean sheet since their 0-0 draw with Sunderland in late August and we wouldn’t be surprised to see visitors Blackburn add to the scoreline tonight.

Defensive issues have been apparent at Blackburn Rovers who have leaked more goals than any other side this season with the exception of Southampton. The Lancashire outfit have conceded seventeen goals in their last six games across competitions although they did at least manage a couple of wins during this time. Rovers have been very unpredictable this term so far and there’s a possibility that they could get themselves back on track this evening, however it seems more likely that the home side will make it back-to-back wins for the first time this season and send themselves closer to the play-off berths in the process.
