Aston Villa v Everton Match Preview & Best Odds

Aston Villa and Everton will both be in buoyant mood following their respective weekend away wins in the Premier League and they lock horns with each other in the third round of the League Cup on Wednesday evening.

Aston Villa’s involvement in the Europa Conference League meant that they didn’t have to bother with the opening two rounds of this season’s League Cup but they were dealt a tough lesson upon their return to European competition when they were edged to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Legia Warsaw in their tournament opener on Thursday evening. Chelsea were aiming to pile more misery upon the West Midlands side at the weekend but far from inflicting upon Villa their third successive away defeat, Unai Emery’s expensively assembled outfit went down to an Ollie Watkins strike in the 73rd minute and lost 1-0 at Stamford Bridge.

While Aston Villa have been something of a mixed bag on their travels, they have been impressive in front of their own home fans with wins in each of their three games at Villa Park across competitions this season. Indeed, Villa head into this midweek cup clash on the back of a ten-game winning streak at this venue – stretching back to February – and they will be confident of avoiding the fate which befell them at this stage of the competition in the last two renewals of this tournament, the Lions losing to Manchester United and Chelsea in the third round.

Everton head into this tie having enjoyed their first Premier League win of the season at Brentford last weekend. The Toffees capitalised on the Bees’ ever growing injury list and claimed all three points courtesy of a 3-1 win at the Gtech Community Stadium, their only season victory prior to this being a 2-1 win at Doncaster Rovers in the second round of this tournament. This will have been a big boost to the Toffees following their slow start to the campaign but Unai Emery’s Villans have been practically unstoppable on home soil in recent months and even a much-changed side should be enough to steer a passage into the next round of the League Cup.

Back Aston Villa to win 2-1 at best odds of 14/1
